Black Mystery School is a 5-part series of conversations, lecture and experiential learning among self-identified Black healers across sciences and disciplines. This spring’s offerings build on our energetic and herbal knowledge base, developing intuition and mediumship, tuning ourselves as divine instruments, and honoring our lived experience as sacred ground. Session descriptions:

APRIL 17: MEDIUMSHIP—A GUIDE TO CONNECTING WITH SPIRITUAL GUIDES AND ANCESTORS W/ IKEOMA

Mediumship is a hands-on practice which requires dedication, but learning this skill will enhance any spiritual practice. This session will incorporate techniques to increase one’s mediumship senses; ways to connect with ancestral spirits; tools that enhance psychic perception; meditations that open the body’s channels for reception; herbal remedies for grounding, protection, and increasing sensitivities; discussion on entheogens; and tips for accessing and communicating with your spirit guides.

APRIL 24: SEASONAL ALCHEMY FOR EMERGENCE AND IMAGINING W/ AYO AND KAREN

In many parts of the world, the spring equinox is the true new year—a time of emergence, warmth, and growth. This class will help us tap into a seasonal healing rhythm observed by herbalists and healers of many kinds.

What soul care practices can we exercise to stretch ourselves, show up in community, and maintain boundaries in a way that protects the tender shoots of ourselves? How can bitter herbs, lymphatics and blood building medicines be supportive containers for fierceness, grace and ease as we journey through the Spring season on toward the promise of Summer?

In this session, we’ll explore and expand the ways we nourish ourselves and encourage our emerging growth, vitality and healing throughout the season.

MAY 1: BREATH WORD W/ GEO

Whether in the garden, apothecary, or kitchen, breathwork is an essential component of tuning into plants and their profound gifts. Every inhale and exhale offers a wonderful opportunity to align our personal rhythm to a much grander cosmic rhythm. When this level of alignment is applied to our plant work, we become the medicine and enhance the potency of our healing. This class will be a meditation on the art of combining breath, intention, and words to deepen our personal connection with our plant allies. We’ll be breathing, imagining and speaking with our medicine.

MAY 15: ROOTSONG™—SEVEN CHAKRA SPIRITUAL SOUND & SONG BATHING W/ KARMA MAYET

Align your Chakras with Traditional Black American Sacred Freedom Songs.

Follow the rainbow from the base of your spine through the crown of your skull in this workshop as we sing and chant, bathing ourselves from the inside out in sacred sound.

You will deepen your body wisdom with respect to the vortexes of subtle energy called chakras that vibrate with information encoded in color. You will sing or chant seven traditional songs, one offered to each chakra/healing zone.

You will experience a synergy between these two distinct yet intrinsically unified wisdom systems, Tantric Healing and African American Sacred Song.

You will be guided to allow divine communication between you and your plant allies as you create meals and medicines for the sustenance of yourself and our communities.

The class will also feature Himalayan singing bowls and hand percussion.

MAY 22: NOURISHING THE SACRED EROTIC SELF W/ LUCRETIA

Join us as we weave a web of self love healing, exploring the sacred sexual self , body/mind/spirit connection to the sacral chakra as a power center, ancestor work, healing from sexual traum , abundance and nourishing ourselves a little bit deeper.

We will also explore plant allies combined with energy work , crystals, and meditation that assist with the keys to self-liberation. We will also dive deep into the erotic, a word derived from “eros” and philosophically, almost as an equivalent to what we call chi, ashe, or  “life energy”.

We’ll discuss the roles passion and pleasure play in our lives as we enhance our healing practices by incorporating sexual energy. We’ll also practice breathing and other exercises to connect with our personal power center as we dive deep into understanding the lower chakras through guided meditation.
