The Curanderx Toolkit with Atava Garcia Swiecicki and special guest maestrxs

7 Thursdays, April 7- May 19

5-7:30pm PST |8-10:30pm ET

Online via Zoom. Classes closed captioned, recorded and available for viewing 1 week after class.

The Curanderx Toolkit class was first dreamed up by Atava Garcia Swiecicki in 2011, after studying curanderismo for over ten years with esteemed Mexican curanderas Estela Roman and Doña Enriqueta Contreras. Atava was inspired to create an herbal medicine class informed by a Latinx cultural perspective, which she felt was missing from most conventional herbal medicine schools. She wanted to create a learning space to empower people, especially communities of color, to take care of their own health by learning basic self-care practices of curanderismo.

This year we celebrate both the recent ten-year anniversary of the class as well the launch of Atava’s book called The Curanderx Toolkit, Reclaiming Ancestral Herbal Medicine and Rituals for Healing. After a five-year hiatus, Atava is returning to teach this class for the first time on Zoom. This class will include teachings on herbal medicine making, self-limpias, baños, and ancestral dreamwork. We will also invite special guest maestrx who are spotlighted in the book to share their specialties and perspectives on curanderismo and healing. This class is centered on BIPOC and QTBIPOC folx but open to people of all backgrounds and genders.
